The effect of Tenghuang Jiangu tablets supplemented with glucosamine sulfate and celecoxib on bone metabolism in elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis

Abstract

Objective The effect of Tenghuang Jiangu tablets supplemented with glucosamine sulfate and celecoxib on bone metabolism in elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) was observed. Methods 114 elderly patients with KOA who came to our hospital from August 2019 to October 2021 were selected and randomly divided into observation group (n=57) and control group (n=57). Patients in control group were treated with glucosamine sulfate and celecoxib, and patients in observation group were additionally treated with Tenghuang Jiangu tablets on the basis of the control group. The changes of the clinical efficacy, Lysholm, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, COMP, PGE2 and bone metabolism indexes were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the Lysholm score was significantly enhanced but the VAS score was obviously reduced in both groups, and the Lysholm score was markedly higher yet the VAS score was obviously lower in observation group than those in control group (P<0.05). After treatment, COMP and PGE2 levels in both groups were significantly reduced, with those in observation group markedly lower than those in control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the level of TRACP-5b was markedly declined but the level of BGP was significantly increased in the two groups. Conclusion Tenghuang Jiangu tablets combined with glucosamine sulfate and celecoxib had good clinical efficacy in the treatment of patients with KOA, which could improve the symptoms of patients and regulate the balance of bone metabolism in patients.
