Objective This research is designed to analyze the clinical effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) combined with gamma globulin and functional rehabilitation training on the treatment of viral encephalitis (VE) in children. Methods 124 children with VE who were treated in our hospital from October 2019 to October 2021 were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 62 cases in each group. Patients in both groups were given conventional treatment, and patients in the control group were received gamma globulin treatment and functional rehabilitation training on this basis, while patients in the observation group were treated with HBO on the basis of the control group. The scores of Fugl-Meyer assessment scale (FMA) and Glasgow Coma scale (GCS), together with levels of neurologic function indicators, myocardial zymography and matrix metalloproteinase, were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the FMA and GCS scores in the two groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the scores in the observation group were evidently higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE), myelin basic protein (MBP), S100B protein, creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1), and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) were obviously lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the levels in the observation group were markedly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion HBO combined with gamma globulin and functional rehabilitation training can effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of children with VE, improve children's state of consciousness, promote the recovery of neurological function, reduce the level of myocardial zymography and regulate the levels of serum MMP-9 and TIMP-1.
